Day 96: The Tetons and Jackson, WY

The Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park through the Rockefeller Parkway and the Grand Teton National Park to Jackson WY

108.54 Miles | 4:05 Riding Time

It’s Monday, July 15, 2024, and it’s Day 96 of my cross country motorcycle trip.

Scott and I are heading down to Jackson, WY today. We made a final stop at the park store, and got the “special” National Park Passport Stamp. Then we filled up with gas, and I topped off the oil in the motorcycle, and we headed out.

Leaving Yellowstone via the south exit, we crossed the continental divide a couple of times, and got on the John D Rockefeller Memorial Parkway. It’s only about 20 miles long—from the south entrance of Yellowstone to the north entrance of Grand Teton—and is dedicated to the role he played in establishing the national parks in Wyoming. Then, into the Grand Teton National Park. The park road runs north-south, and we made several stops along the way: Jackson Lake, Jenny Lake, Colter Bay.

The line of Tetons was ever-present as we made our way south through the park. The rugged, sharp, pointy peaks seem to rise directly from the valley floor. Unlike most ranges, there are no foothills. The mountains are just right there. It’s stunning to see them just rising from across Jenny Lake.

Jackson is a cool, ski-mountain town, with lots of restaurants, breweries, galleries and souvenir shops. Scott and I walked over to Orsetto, and had a delicious dinner before turning in.
