Day 75: My First Glimpse of the Canadian Rockies and Jasper National Park

Kamloops, BC to Jasper, AB

278.07 Miles | 4:46 Riding Time

It’s Monday, June 24, 2024, and it’s Day 75 of my cross country motorcycle trip.

Jasper is an adorable town. It’s inside a National Park, and has amazing views of the Canadian Rockies. Right now, I’m having dinner at Mad Grizzly Gastropub. It’s 60 degrees outside, and I’m looking at snow on the higher peaks.

Today’s route was really simple, but beautiful. Leaving Kamloops, BC I got on RT 5, and stayed on it for about just under 300 miles. RT 5 is a high mountain road, and so the weather changed quickly and often. One minute, there was bright sun and blue skies, the next minute, it was raining. Nothing torrential, so I just kept riding.

The closer I got to the Rockies, the taller the mountains were getting, and as I entered the Mt Robson Provincial Park, I was greeted by the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies (12,972 ft). It was stunning, and stood out from everything around it.

After winding through the provincial park, I started riding along the amazingly clear Moose Lake. There were several waterfalls on the far side of the lake that emptied into it, and provided breathtaking views for miles.

I arrived at the entrance to Jasper National Park, my first Canadian National Park, and paid my $11 (CDN) entrance fee. From there, it was only another 30 minutes to Jasper.
