Day 50: Riding the Coast Does Not Get Old

Windsor, CA up the PCH to Fort Bragg, CA

125.16 Miles | 3:27 Riding Time

It’s Thursday, May 30, 2024, and it’s Day 50 of my cross country motorcycle trip.

It’s another beautiful day riding up the California coastline—it doesn’t get old. Scott and I spent last night in Windsor, which is inland. So, this morning’s ride was back to the coast along the Russian River in Sonoma County. A right turn and we were back on the PCH. Today’s ride did have quite a bit of construction, but the delays weren’t bad. We took the opportunity to take some selfies with our vehicles. It was also wild to see these folks operating heavy machinery on the edge of some very steep drop-offs.

I don’t really have much to say about the ride. It was smooth riding—beautiful and serene. Stopped for a quick snack at a little shop in Elk, CA, and headed on to Fort Bragg. Had lunch and checked in to our hotel. Headed out for dinner just before 8 PM and had trouble finding a place that was open. Ended up at Kw Saltwater Grill & Seafood Market, and was not disappointed.

UPDATE: Apparently, we got lucky being able to ride this route. On June 3rd, a semi hit an embankment just north of Mendocino, then went over the edge—down about 100 ft. Somehow, there were no injuries reported, but they have the entire road closed to try to get the truck hauled up.
