Day 110: Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay

Sault Saint Marie, ON, the north channel of Lake Huron to Sudbury, ON and the Georgian Bay to Toronto

It’s Monday, July 29, 2024, and it’s Day 110 of my cross country motorcycle trip.

I continued my journey along the Canadian side of the great lakes, and it was a beautiful day—albeit long and hot—of riding. After a couple hours in the morning, I made a stop at the ubiquitous Tim Horton’s for some coffee and a muffin. Then, back on the road.

At one point, I passed this unfortunate accident where a car pulling a small travel trailer had flipped upside down. There was some wind today, but not enough wind to flip a trailer. Fortunately, it appeared that no one was hurt.

A few hours later, I was running a little low on fuel, so I stopped at a random station. As I was fueling up, a Harley pulled in behind me, and I was surprised to see that it was the couple I had met at dinner in Custer, SD. Dana and Harriet were on a cross country trip as well, and I had started following them on Facebook as they made their way home to New Hampshire. We caught up for bit and wished each other well on our travels home. Great to see you again!

I stopped for lunch around 2pm in Port Severn, along RT-400, which is about 100 miles north of Toronto. So, not too much further to go. At this point, temperatures were in the mid 90s, and soaking my neck gaiter in cold water helped quite a bit.

The traffic built up and the quiet roads turned into freeways (and tollways) as I got closer to Toronto. Rather than dealing with downtown traffic in the evening rush hour, I had decided to stay near the Toronto Airport (YYZ for you Rush fans). It was a little confusing getting there, but my GPS directed me to the right place.

A much-needed shower, then dinner at the hotel, and another day was in the books.
