Day 19: Cape Girardeau, MO to Lake Ozark, MO

238.73 Miles | 4:59 Riding Time

Today is Monday, April 29, 2024, and it’s Day 19 of my cross country motorcycle trip.

The storm slowed down a little overnight, so I didn’t completely pass over while I was sleeping. I woke up to some pretty serious rain. The forecast said it would pass by around 11 AM. So, I wasn’t sure if I was going to stay in Cape Girardeau, or start heading over toward the Lake of the Ozarks.

I had breakfast and a couple cups of coffee, and the weather started clearing. I made the decision to go as directly as possible to Lake of the Ozarks, and I’m glad I did. It turned out to be a beautiful ride.

Well, not at first. There was just a drizzle when I started, but that soon changed. For those of you wondering what it’s like in the rain, here’s a clip. You can hear the rain, and check out the waterfall on the left.

It cleared up soon after this clip was recorded, and turned into a beautiful ride all the way to the lake.

I stayed at The Resort at the Lake of the Ozarks. The place is huge, and there’s a restaurant with a large, outdoor space and bar overlooking the lake. Even though it’s early in the season, the owners like to have live music. So even though there were only about 10 people in the venue that can clearly hold a thousand or more, there was live music from Zak (sorry, if I spelled your name wrong). A picturesque sunset, dinner, drinks and music while trading bike and travel stories with his sister, Portland. Nice to meet both of you.
