Day 7: Brevard, NC to Suches, GA

It’s Wednesday, April 17, 2024, and it’s day 7 of my cross country motorcycle trip. The day started off with amazing scones and good coffee at the Bracken Mountain Bakery in Brevard…delicious! The staff and other customers we so friendly and really enjoyed hanging out and chewing the dough(is that a thing?) over coffee. It was a nice way to start the day.

It wasn’t a long day, but it sure was a fun day. Lots of twisties and no commitments. It was a mix of super-twisty roads and long, straight, scenic stretches.

There was a fair amount of elevation changes today—life’s ups and downs. I’m sure it’s nothing like what I’ll experience in the Rockies, but it was green and lush and beautifully paved roads. I gotta say, the Carolinas do a pretty good job paving! You can tell when you go from one state to another…and sometimes even from one county to another who takes care/pride in their roads.

Two Wheels of Suches

I ended the day at Two Wheels of Suches in Suches, GA. I had a fantastic day of riding, and there was a group of 5-6 guys from the Atlanta area who were all sitting on the porch at the lodge. We chatted…it started pouring…it let up a little…and they left for home.

A couple of them were heading out to Moab, UT in a few weeks for some off-road riding. They’ll be there and gone before I get to Moab, but it’s a great reminder of how big and how small the communities of people around anything really are. Have fun out there, gents.

The lodge at Two Wheels was simple, but great. The restaurant is only open on the weekends, so there was quite literally no one else there. They have campgrounds, small cabins, and a lodge. The lodge has three, large bedrooms upstairs, and common kitchen, bathroom and living area. It was nice, clean and super-quiet.

Unfortunately, because it was a Wednesday, and it was raining, my only real option for dinner was a Hunt Brothers Pizza from the gas station across the street. Not bad for gas station pizza, and a good night’s rest.
