Days 10-11: Middlesboro, KY to Lexington, KY

253 Miles | 5:59 Riding Time

It’s Saturday, April 20, 2024, and it’s day 10 of my cross country motorcycle trip.

Today’s ride was a blast! Eastern Kentucky is such a beautiful place. There were lots of twists and turns. It was difficult to pick some photos to represent the day, because there was just one beautiful turn after another. Well, there was also a short stretch of dirt and gravel. After all the twisties, I got onto the Bert T Combs Mountain Parkway, and took that into Lexington.

Dinner at the Outback Steakhouse that first night, I met a nice, local couple, Mark and Dottie, while having dinner at the bar. We had a fun time talking about bikes, kayaks, the eclipse, and other random stuff. If you folks are reading this, it was great to meet you.

I stayed 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn. so I could catch up on posting and do some laundry.

The second night I ate at the hotel where Amy was working the restaurant (Chef Scott was in the kitchen). Amy told me about Old Friends Equine, where she also works. It’s a retirement home for thoroughbred racehorses. While I didn’t get a chance to visit, it looks like an amazing place and a good cause.

Some Notes

  • See the full ride on Rever

  • Avoid Edward’s Cemetery Road (Ponder Branch-Pigeon Roost Bridge Road) — it’s a couple miles of dirt and gravel. Passable, but not fun.
